Description
€15.000(inc. 6%VAT, exc. transport etc.) Marijke A.Deege, bronze, unique 116 x 60 cm The desperate broken-winged angel tumbles towards the earth into the wing of the murdered dove of peace. The answer to the question 'why' is written in the gesture and on her face. The dove, the symbol of peace an reconciliation, the angel as the Messenger of God. Angel: a word encapsulating everything that is vitally important to us: peace, reconciliation, love. While I was working on this piece I cast my mind back to the word of the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes:I saw all this when I thought about the things that are done in this world, a world where some people have power and others have to suffer under them. If this is possible between two people, then how much more harrowing is a war? A bronze artwork that would not look of place on a war grave or in a cemetery with war graves. In fact, it would be at home in any place where people pause in contemplation.
